THE INDIAN MARITIME FOUNDATION

The Indian Maritime Foundation (IMF) was established in December 1993 by a group of officers who have served in the Indian Navy, the Indian Merchant Marine and other professions. They have dedication and a high sense of commitment to this cause of public service they have embarked upon.

The IMF is a non profit organisation, registered in Pune as a charitable trust. It has branches in Delhi and Mumbai.

OBJECTIVES

The Indian Maritime Foundation has an excisting agenda of activities, which are mainly:

	To promote awareness of and debate in all aspects of India’s maritime interests, especially in the field of naval, geo strategic, shipping and ports, marine art, environmental activities, etc.
	To generate awareness of and research in India’s maritime heritage and related history.
	To publish a quarterly journal, SeaGull, which carries feature and articles on national and international maritime matters and reports on current issues of maritime interest. Furthermore it helps to break down barriers amongst different disciplines of the sea whilst promoting coordination amongst them.
	To maintain a maritime information data base, especially on careers, and a library, with special reference to India.
	To kindle maritime consciousness among the children and the youth of India by organizing lectures on careers, history, heritage, etc and maritime recreational tours to ships.
	To promote ‘Ocean Saver Of India’ scheme by coordinating international costal cleanup in India and by organizing lectures and workshops in schools and colleges on marine environment.
	To foster an environment of informed maritime opinion among the various maritime interests, such as naval, ship-building and repair, fisheries, environmental, marine art, etc. through lectures, seminars and workshops.

THE INDIAN MARITIME FOUNDATION IS A REGISTERED CHARITY

1. Registered Under Societies Registration Act 1860, vide letter no.  Maharashtra9238-94Pune. Dated 2nd May1994.
2. Registered vide Bombay public trust act 1980, letter no. f 9428 Pune dated 6TH June, 1994.
3. Donations to the Indian Maritime Foundation are exempted under section 80G of the income tax act 1961 vide the commissioner of income tax letter no: PN/CIT/12A/80G/21.3.2006, dated 21.10.2005. Valid up to 31st March 2008.
